New First-Year Student Placement Testing

New Student Placement Testing in Light of the Coronavirus Outbreak

Thank you for visiting the BSU New Student Placement registration page.

We know that this is a challenging and uncertain time for our incoming students as they work hard to complete their senior year under the strain of the COVID-19 outbreak, and want you to know we admire your hard work and dedication!

While the outbreak has forced the cancellation of our on-campus placement sessions, changes have been made to the process to enable course placement for incoming students. Please read below for details.

Click here to access the English placement testing page where you will find instructions on how to compose and submit a brief essay, which will be used to inform your placement in your first college-level writing course.

To determine your first-semester math course, we will use SAT-Math scores* and/or a placement exam.

Though it is not required to submit SAT scores to BSU, we encourage you to submit them by May 1st if you have not already done so. In May we will begin contacting you to discuss your initial math placement and provide information regarding online testing if you wish to advance your placement, or if you did not take the SAT.

*Although SAT scores are not required for admission, we do use SAT Math scores as a tool for determining the best math course for you. We will be relying more heavily this year on SAT MATH scores as a placement measure due to the COVID-19 crisis which has forced our current campus closure and eliminated our ability to offer on-campus placement testing.
